Rhino and Lion Park

30 minute drive from O.R.Tambo International Airport. The Rhino & Lion Park is a privately owned, non-subsidised game reserve, covering approximately 1 600 ha on the typical highveld of Gauteng Province. The Rhino & Lion Park is situated in the “Cradle of Humankind”, a declared World Heritage Site, with white rhino, lion, hippo, cheetah, wild dog and many species of different game. Have your photo taken while you cuddle a baby lion at the kiosk and souvenir shop at the picnic site. This is a great day outing for the family. The Rhino & Lion Park was founded in 1985 with the aim of conserving the area for leisure. The reserve had a modest beginning of only 2 white Rhino. The reserve now features over 600 head of game and up to 30 species of wildlife. Due to public demand to visit the game reserve, the name was changed from ‘Kiepersol’ to ‘Rhino Park’ in 1990 and the public were allowed to visit. A lot of attention was put on animal breeding and the success of this project is best illustrated by the 18 new white Rhino calves and a number of new wildlife species. Despite many factors such as climate affecting breeding patterns, the reserve still made an effort to allow for a wildlife experience in Gauteng. The Rhino and Lion park right here in Gauteng is an exquisite nature reserve that forms part of South Africa’s top five attractions to visit.
