Pilanesberg National Park is set on 50 000 hectares of pristine unspoiled natural beauty, situated in the North West Province. The crater of a long extinct volcano is the setting of Pilanesberg National Park- a fascinating alkaline complex produced by volcanic eruptions some 1300 million years ago. Pilanesberg National Park is one of the largest volcanic complexes of its kind in the world. Its rare rock types and structure make it a unique geological feature.

Operation Genesis: The creation of the Pilanesberg National Park is considered one of the most ambitious programs of its kind to be undertaken anywhere in the world, the re-introduction of many long-vanished species, the park now has in excess of 7 000 animals including 24 of the larger species. Truly fulfilling wildlife excursions could have you spotting any of the Big Five.

The Pilanesberg National Park borders with the entertainment complex Sun City. The park was originally owned by three local tribes, and is now administered by the North West Parks and Tourism Board.

Pilanesberg National Park is the park in South Africa with the greatest variety of animals /square km. It is the closest game reserve to Gauteng with the Big 5 and it is malaria free.

Pilanesberg National Park in the North West Province, South Africa, supports healthy populations of Lion, Leopard, Black and White Rhino, Elephant and Buffalo and a wide variety of rare and common species like the nocturnal Brown Hyena, the fleet-footed Cheetah, the majestic Sable, Giraffe, Zebra, Hippo and Crocodile and other animals. Over 300 bird species have been recorded.

Standing high above the surrounding bushveld, Pilanesberg National Park unfolds in a series of colourful hues and panoramas which is a delight for photographers and guests.

Short itinerary:

06am – pick up from Johannesburg. 07am – pick up from Pretoria.
08am – arrive at Pilanesberg and start game drive.
12pm – light lunch at Pilanesberg restaurant with view over animal drinking hole.
after lunch – continue game drive till +- 15h00 time to travel back to Johannesburg.
Duration of tour inside park +- 6 hours. If time allows a visit to souvenir market on way.
+- 05pm back in Johannesburg. +- 04 pm back in Pretoria.

11am – arrive at Sun City and do a sightseeing walk in premises.

02pm – arrive at Pilanesberg, start game viewing.
Continue game drive till time to travel back to Johannesburg.
